This fair happens twice a year at the college. It is a great chance for students and local crafty people alike to pick up craft pieces, and in the meantime have a relaxed day chatting to the visitors. There were some great pieces on display.
Today I went outside and decided to walk around the area by the college. It was covered with trees and snow and it was quite cold so I decided to bring my camera with me and I took some photo's while I was there for future art references.
Walking around I noticed the way the light shines here. It's quite clear and not hazy like we get in Ireland. I also noticed that the snow here was very soft but not wet and it was very grainy and nearly fell apart when I grabbed some snow and held it in my hand. It was as if it was dust. I hope that in the future many of these photos could be good references to future work that I create. Annie, one of the student mentors was working at a gallery that was having an opening night with a Finnish sculptor, showing some of his recent work. She said that Vincent, Karen, and Maeve should come along and visit and say hi to the artist.
As we drove into Helsinki, Annie brought us to a place that was across the road from the gallery where it was like a market just for foods and pastries. It was traditional Finnish food and Annie said she comes there a lot to eat so i decided that while im in Finland I might as well experience Finnish food. I went for the the reindeer sandwich, which looked a lot like a burger except that the meat was very tasteless. It only had taste because of all the sauces on it. So that was my first experience with reindeer meat, i'm glad I had it though. Next we went to the gallery where we looked at the works of art. They were wall mounted sculptures and they were mounted like paintings. I loved them as they had so much transparency and so full of colour. It was well worth coming over to see them, however it was strange for me when I was there as the work itself made me question whether life was just about reproduction, or is there more to it than I thought. I would be sad if life just had one goal. As I kept looking at the colours of the works moving I found it interesting that the art works could make me question life so much. After that, Karen, Maeve and myself went to find Kammpii station where we just made the bus back to Keuda. It was a fun day and I really do think that i'll be thinking about what I thought when I was in the gallery. Maybe i'll find an answer, but who knows. I guess thats the fun of a journey like this. |
