Erasmus+ placements are a great opportunity for students. I’m the happiest person that I have been able to partake in such an experience. Erasmus was very beneficial for me. I have learned new things about healthcare sector and about myself also. I have decided that i’m going to study Spanish next year also. I would like to live in Spain in future. I have always liked Spanish culture and on this placement I have met nice people there. Maria, my host is coming to Galway in April with three Spanish students and I am really looking forward to meeting with them. My Spanish is improving now as I have bought a Spanish dictionary two years ago and I will be studying it during my free time. Thank you again for this great experience, it opened my mind.
Working in the hospital in Spain helped me to develop my interpersonal skills as I had to work with different members of staff from administrators, supervisors, nurses and doctors. I learnt that good communication skills is vital in any work place especially when working within a multidisciplinary team. The practical skills I learned in assisting the nurse in medical duties, ensuring all consultation rooms were ready and had a good supply of medical equipment and resources, greeting patients and maintaining administration site of the clinic has been excellent in helping me develop as a Healthcare Assistant and given me an insight into what it means to be a HCA in a hospital environment. Whilst on placement I met wonderful people many of whom I intend to keep in touch with. Through working with them I have become more confident in my work and studies. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures and ways of life and work.
This experience has helped me to define which area of healthcare I want to work in and has helped me to develop skills which prior to being on placement I didn’t realise I had. This experience will enable me to apply for work in a hospital environment working as a HCA in a clinical environment. Whilst working in the hospital I had the opportunity to develop my Spanish which was of great use to me and will help me the future.
