I really enjoyed the experience of working in Tenerife for three weeks. I was working in a five star spa. I was working at reception and carrying out some treatments. I learned a lot about the industry I hope to work in in the future. I think I learned a lot and I developed many skills through the experience. I improved my organisation and communication skills through working. These skills also improved through the overall experience and living with other people in a foreign country. I was responsible for myself and to have myself organised. I also improved my patience and tolerance of other people and how I interact with other people my own age through living with other people I didn’t know prior to this experience. This experience helped to improve my overall confidence and I think it helped me to feel more prepared leaving college and entering the working industry.
I found the whole Erasmus experience very positive, we literally had nothing to organise except just to show up ready and packed. Our college -GTI and our hosts were very helpful by finding our placements and bringing us to them to be introduced. It was an amazing opportunity to work in the health spa industry and to practice on brushing up on the skills I had learned at college. It was excellent that our college had found us accommodation and had our flights booked also. In relation to the placement it was a priceless opportunity to have worked in the industry in a hands on sense. I have received a letter of recommendation from my employer in Tenerife which I will be able to use in the future when looking for employment in the industry. Overall I have found the Erasmus programme to be very beneficial with improving skill and finding future employment within the healthcare and therapeutic industry.
