We all have that Friday feeling. We all had a hectic week with work. Me, Celia, blathnait and Bridget all finished work at 6:30pm. Sabine was very kind and picked us up from work to bring us to our accommodation for the weekend in Bethune.
Joanne and Thea later joined us when the finished work at 9pm. Sabine then took them to the flat. Where we were staying. We decided to have a chill out night with domino's and wine, as we have planned to go to Lille tomorrow morning. A bientot

Today was the first day beginning our work placements. Before we hit the road we got a whirlwind tour of Lycee des Travaux Publics and were provided with a lovely breakfast and packed lunch from the college. Sabine, our French co-ordinator took us to our individual stores then to introduce us to our work teams. - Laoise started in a popular French shoe store called Besson, - Joanne and Thea joined forces to work in Nocibe, - Bláthnait started in a large French fashion chain store called La Halle aux Vetement - Bridget began her placement in fashion store called Kiabi - Michaela started her work placement in a funky fashion store by the name of Lola Liza. We all enjoyed our first day and found the French customers and staff really accommodating in terms of our difficultly getting used to our new language for the next three weeks. The basics we picked up from our French lessons with Donall before our trip came in very useful. Another fantastic help was our GTI superstar co-coordinator Mark Shaw, who did so much research in terms of transport to and from work, helping us to get settled into our first few days and just making sure we were all ok. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and some brief sightseeing in the centre of Bethune that night. We even celebrated Galway Rag Week's Mayo Monday French style ! Back to work the following day for more fashion french work and getting settled into our stores.
We're really looking forward to exploring more of beautiful France and experience the French culture as the days go on. Bonne Jaimee! Our Erasmus journey has started - we have all arrived in Brussels safe and sound and made our way to the beautiful Lille by train. We had our first encounter with men in uniform by meeting French Customs who were checking people's luggage for security purposes. It was comforting but unusual to see such tight security in place from an Irish perspective however this was understandable after the terrorist attacks that have taken place in France. We arrived in Lille and were greeted by our French co-ordinator Mdme Sabine Pacqueur and Jean Pascal Delbe who kindly brought us by car to the Campus Des Métiers et Des Qualification des Travaux Publics near Bruary la Buissiere where we would be staying for the duration of our Erasmus trip. When we arrived, a beautiful dinner was ready and waiting. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and friendly from the get go which was lovely. We were so tired from travelling we went to bed early to get some beauty sleep before our work placements. We were all looking forward to our first week experiencing French work culture.
